Summer vacation in Ocean City, Maryland

A small beach town on the eastern shore of the U.S. may not be on your bucket list, but it should be. Ocean City has so much to offer for a fun vacation. The beaches span for 10 miles and are filled with games, rides, bars, restaurants, live music and much more.

The Travel Channel ranked its boardwalk one of America’s favorite. Most nights during the summer, the boardwalk shows free movies, concerts and many beach games to choose from. The amusement park on the boardwalk has fun rides for all ages, concession stands and an overall great atmosphere. Even if you’re not a big fan of rides, at least get on the Ferris wheel as there’s a great view of the ocean and city from the top!

Located 5 miles west of the boardwalk is Frontier Town. This is a perfect place to take kids for its fast and fun water slides, lazy river, mini golf and zip lining through the forest. There’s a show put on daily that includes a train ride to the teepees where the Indians used to live. Real Indians even put on a live show! There’s many campsites in the area as well if you choose to camp.

Ocean City offers various rentals that include jet skis, helicopter tours, parasailing and fishing boat rentals.

There’s many choices of great restaurants in this town and I do have a few that are on the top of my list. My absolute favorite is Liquid Assets. When you walk in, it looks like you are in the middle of a liquor store. Pick out your bottle of wine and they show you to the room where you’ll be seated for dinner. It’s a very cool concept! The meat and cheese boards are truly outstanding and the seafood there is so fresh. The best Italian restaurant in town in Cello’s. If you plan on staying right on Ocean Highway, you can take an Uber/Lyft over to west Ocean City (about 3 miles). It’s an upscale restaurant so be sure to dress accordingly. Also in west Ocean City is another favorite, Sunset Grille. There’s live music there every weekend throughout the summer and the views of the marina are beautiful! The food is some of the best that the city has to offer.

For an after dinner treat, head on over to Candy Kitchen. Candy Kitchen is a “staple” that has been selling all those mouth watering, sugar high treats since 1937. There’s multiple locations throughout and easy to spot with their bright, well-lit signs.

The biggest and best place to go for nightlife fun is Seacrets. Seacrets has earned a spot (#11) on the Nightclub & Bar Top 100 list in the US! Seacrets is located on the bayside of 49th Street. They do have a restaurant outside, however I wouldn’t recommend eating there. This place is more for live music and drinks. If you plan on visiting between Memorial Day and Labor Day, you may encounter a long line, especially over holiday weekends. The line has been known to be over 1 mile long at 8:00 am! During the day, everyone usually wears a bathing suit. Nighttime entry has a strict dress code. There’s 18 bars, a nightclub, live reggae music on the outside stage and so much more. If I counted up all the hours I’ve spent in Seacrets, it’d probably add up to at least one year of my life! Not even kidding! It’s definitely a place you have to go at least once (even though you’ll definitely want to go again). Fagers is another great option for nightlife (and dinner too). They have live music every weekend and also a DJ in the other room. There you will have great views, especially at sunset.

Many homeowners rent their condos or homes in the area if you plan on going with a large group. If you plan on getting a hotel room, I’d recommend The Princess Bayside (conveniently located next to Seacrets), Best Western or Holiday Inn (which is on the beachside and has a pool bar).

I hope you enjoy my home away from home!

Safe travels~ Angela
